The full form of "SORF" when referring to flanges is "Slip On Raised Face." A Slip On Raised Face Flange (SORF) is a type of flange that slips over the end of a pipe and is secured in place by bolting another flange to it. The raised face on the mating side of the flange provides a sealing surface for a gasket.
In the SORF flange design, the flange has a recessed area on the inside diameter where it slides over the end of the pipe. This design allows for easier installation since the flange does not have to be aligned with the bolt holes of the mating flange. Once in place, bolts are used to connect the SORF flange to another flange, typically a Weld Neck Flange (WNRF) or another SORF flange, to complete the joint.
SORF flanges are commonly used in low-pressure applications and are preferred in situations where frequent disassembly and reassembly of the flange joint are required. They are available in various materials and pressure classes to suit different piping system requirements.
