Why is it called a flange?

A flange is a type of coupling or connection that is used to join two pieces of material together. It is called a "flange" because it is shaped like a flat circular plate, with a wide, flat area at one end and a narrow, pointed area at the other end. This shape allows the flange to be securely attached to another piece of material, such as a pipe, tube, or plate.

The flange is often made of a material that is more durable than the material it is joining, such as steel or stainless steel. It is commonly used in a wide range of applications, including industrial, commercial, and residential settings, to connect pipes, tubes, and other types of tubing.
