While AWWA, ANSI, and ASME are the most common standards for flanges and fittings in the United States, European and international industries rely on DIN standards, which use the metric system.

While AWWA, ANSI, and ASME are the most common standards for flanges and fittings in the United States, European and international industries rely on DIN standards, which use the metric system. DIN flanges are available in the same styles—slip-on, weld-neck, and blind—as ASME/ANSI flanges. The measurements used to determine the appropriate flange size, such as outer and inner diameter, number of bolt holes, and bolt hole and bolt circle diameter, are similar. However, the dimensions and pressure ratings of DIN flanges differ from AWWA, ANSI, or ASME flanges. Therefore, DIN flanges should be paired with piping system components that comply with the same standard.
